Conceptual :: Ahau ob

I've had this image just sitting on my HD for a while and I didn't bother doing anything with it. So I went a little brush-crazy on it and this was the result. Not perfect, but I do like how the colors and graphic elements turned out-- and I'm still trying to keep up on a semi-regular posting schedule.

Image is © Schultz '10 -- feel free to pass the link around but please do not repost without express permission.

Conceptual WIP :: A Series of Moments

This is a work in progress-- I'm trying my best to finish it by the time the week's up, but I'm still pretty happy with how it's going. The idea is to brush up on my skills in depicting some of the people that exist in the backdrop. Sadly the fox girl ended up looking too much like a common furry to take seriously, but I still like how the overall feel of the image turned out.

I'll add more descriptiness to this post when I'm less passy-outy, geehhh, but I wanted to put up some new artwork before I went to sleep (or whittled away the time dicking with Garry's Mod). The scan is a little fuzzy in places, which I find sad, but since it's a WIP I didn't feel like it was necessary to do multiple scans. It'll look better when I get around to doing the final.

Conceptual :: Dog Interrupted

This is another repost from the archives, so many apologies if you've seen it before. In part, this can be considered fanart, but not of what some might think (Resident Evil 4) since I consider the dog mutants in that particular game to be homage to the same source.

I needed practice on drawing straight-up canines in terms of anatomical studies, and per my usual, I can't possibly be happy with a technical 'standing pose' drawing. I already get bored enough with my 'interesting' stuff-- you can imagine how quickly I move on from something that non-engaging.

(and this would be why i stopped paying attention in art school...)

In any event, this, like the previous image, is done in graphite with tinting added back in via Photoshop. The blizzard effect going on in the background ended up taking way, waaay more time than I wanted to put into it, but I'm still plugging away at it bit by bit. This can be considered unrelated to the larger project at hand, for the most part; at the moment it'll just be unrestrained gushing over The Thing. Speaking of, the site linked has some information concerning the upcoming 'Thing' prequel, which I'm not altogether excited about. Why? Largely because of the names attached to the project. It WOULD be nice to see a coherent take on the Norwegian side of things, but...

The downer on this is Ronald D. Moore, a writer who has consistently had only semi-decent ideas with very poor execution and a distinct lack of empathy. I was taken in by BSG at the beginning but it was clear that whatever vision he had for the series wasn't long-lasting or sustainable. I've seen him take guest writing gigs on other series-- Carnivale comes to mind, specifically-- and his episodes stuck out like a sore thumb in comparison to the other writers, even before I knew it was him at the helm. Needless to say, this doesn't give me high hopes when it comes to him being able to carry the weight of the original film with any grace.

Conceptual WIP :: 'Step Right Up' (Mutie Town)

I've been pretty terrible about upkeep with this blog. Since I've given up posting to various archives, I may as well put these up on here. I'll try to post the old stuff (with vague explanations) every morning or every other morning.

This is 'Mutie Town' concept art that I'm still working on. I'm gonna give the double-mouthed horned guy a striped shirt ala carnival announcers. I want to make the characters look more human-oriented as opposed to humans with animal heads; overall this looks a lot better than how it started out. I like the dynamic of the characters and their overall design but I'm gonna have to pass this off to someone with more technical prowess. I do rather like how the martini-girl looks.
