Conceptual :: Dog Interrupted

This is another repost from the archives, so many apologies if you've seen it before. In part, this can be considered fanart, but not of what some might think (Resident Evil 4) since I consider the dog mutants in that particular game to be homage to the same source.

I needed practice on drawing straight-up canines in terms of anatomical studies, and per my usual, I can't possibly be happy with a technical 'standing pose' drawing. I already get bored enough with my 'interesting' stuff-- you can imagine how quickly I move on from something that non-engaging.

(and this would be why i stopped paying attention in art school...)

In any event, this, like the previous image, is done in graphite with tinting added back in via Photoshop. The blizzard effect going on in the background ended up taking way, waaay more time than I wanted to put into it, but I'm still plugging away at it bit by bit. This can be considered unrelated to the larger project at hand, for the most part; at the moment it'll just be unrestrained gushing over The Thing. Speaking of, the site linked has some information concerning the upcoming 'Thing' prequel, which I'm not altogether excited about. Why? Largely because of the names attached to the project. It WOULD be nice to see a coherent take on the Norwegian side of things, but...

The downer on this is Ronald D. Moore, a writer who has consistently had only semi-decent ideas with very poor execution and a distinct lack of empathy. I was taken in by BSG at the beginning but it was clear that whatever vision he had for the series wasn't long-lasting or sustainable. I've seen him take guest writing gigs on other series-- Carnivale comes to mind, specifically-- and his episodes stuck out like a sore thumb in comparison to the other writers, even before I knew it was him at the helm. Needless to say, this doesn't give me high hopes when it comes to him being able to carry the weight of the original film with any grace.

  1. I actually hadn't seen this one before, or at least, not knowingly.

    That said, the combination made me think of only one thing... one thing that came above all else, one thing, it seems, that surpassed even THE thing. And that is...
