Shivers [aka: THEY CAME FROM WITHIN]

Oh. My god.

I saw it. It sort of blew my mind. This director that I had appreciated, nay, ADMIRED throughout most of my teenage years, all the way through to my early twenties, had films I had not seen. I was warned not to see Shivers for a variety of reasons, but I decided, No! I had to see this. I'd seen nearly everything else! I was determined to see Crash! And-- and--

And then I saw it.

I will sum it up for you:

See! The most white-bread colony of yuppies you will ever see ever! This is so Canada! There might be black people! But they're usually in the basement so don't worry about that!

*fat bastard kills girlfriend, pours acid in her Y incision, SEE LOTS OF PANTIES! kills self, all while naked, it's totally epic and completely unnecessary*
Fat Bastard's Assistant: Parasites can replace organs! Feel bad for me I will soon have mobile penises crawling all over my face. :[
Lead Character: I don't show up until halfway through the film! ...You can't understand what I say num num num num num.
Fat Bastard's Assistant: TOSS ME THAT-- wait no that pickle is used. :[ why am i saying these things
*more panties! oh my god it's a fat lady D:*
Random Guy: *barfing noises*
Random Girlfriend: DID YOU SAY SOMETHING?
Random Guy: MAKE LUV TO MEE *throws up everywhere, seriously*
*what the hell is going on!!!!*
Fat Lady: i'm hungry. I'm hungry for luuuv. AH'M HUNGREH FOR LUUUV. [ACTUAL LINE IN THE MOVIE, also it's now my ringtone because me and sam could not stop laughing at it]
*everyone in the goddamn apartment building is just raping the shit out of each other and barfing penises, i swear to god i am not making this up*
Parasite: :o :o :o
Lead Character: num num num num young ladies num num num
*nurse girlfriend of lead, apparently doctor character gets naked for no reason as fat bastard's assistant says something about parasite sex and parasite-induced rapist syndrome or something I AM GOING TO START DRINKING HEAVILY NOW*
Fat Bastard's Assistant: Yeah, mobile penises. All over my face. This is awesome.
*some weird garage scene or something I don't know*
Lead Character: num num num
*!!SHIT GOES CRAZY!!*
*token black guy dies*
*EVERYONE RAPES EVERYONE, parasites everywhere*
*WHY ARE THERE LITTLE GIRLS ON LEASHES??! okay sorry going back upstairs now num num*
Gay Men in Hallway: Speedos... are apparently an ominous indicator of sexual preference when paired with a fluffy mustache. We are the most polite of all your potential rapists. We at least knock on your door and ask you to go to night clubs.
*some weird guy molesting his daughter and then, okay! so the naked [infected] girls in the pool were kinda fun to look at, arguably the BEST PART IN THE MOVIE, but the lead character just kind of runs screaming*
Everyone On Planet Canada: Sex him. Sex him 'til he yells.
*they do*
Lead Character: num num num num I guess I rape people now.

THE END.

Now you don't have to see it. I took the brunt of that one for you.

You're welcome.

Concept Art :: Silly Rivalries (and misc. WIPs)

Nothing major this time around except three of the lead characters looking disgruntled in front of a MASH-like backdrop. This was quick and once I scanned/tinted the whole thing I realized I hadn't even added in Tony (left) or Jody's (center) markings. I might repost this in the near future with more accurate depictions of those, especially since they're all looking a bit more elfish than I want them to.

The other two pieces are 'true' WIPs in that I have yet to finish them. One is modifying the look of more 'feral' hybrids, this time a cat of some kind. I just keep her sans-markings, but I'll probably do some variations on her once I get the watercolors done and can port it into Photoshop.

The third is a piece I'm working on for a friend of mine of his character Lucy. Since the mode of dress is so unbelievably complex, it's been slow-going. But, so far, I like the prototype. I need to add longer hair, give it a bit more curl and generally fix some of the anatomy errors, but aside from that it's actually going somewhere.

Conceptual :: Three Doodles

I'm not sure what to say about these. They're a lot of character attempts-- some of them are named, some aren't. The primary reason for a lot of them is to do more practice on drawing humanoid critters. I'll post something more interesting eventually-- like stuff I consider actual art pieces as opposed to just conceptual stuff.

The pigman I'm pretty happy with. Save for the fact that I keep hearing Kramer shouting PIGMAN! IT'S A PIGMAN! whenever I look at it.

The jaguar mechanic girl looks too much like a standard furry but I think that's a fault of the tail and markings. I've got a lot of ideas on how to modify the design. Reducing the fur and turning the markings into skin pigments; getting rid of or modifying the tail, etc etc. One staple I'm aiming to keep is the digitigrade legs, so this'll be an interesting, er... conceptual journey? Yeah, let's go with that. In any event, one other thing I wanna do is make her a little heftier. As if she actually, you know, eats.

So the last image is yet MORE attempts at drawing humanoid 'canid' heads (save one, which is a doodle of the jaguar girl seen above). Since I intend on making a kind of 'species gradient' (for a variety of reasons-- I'll get to that eventually) where there's a variety of physical appearances for any given hybrid species. I wanted to practice on the more human-appearing variety but I wanted to do some permutations, too. So it occured to me that having a kind of ... monkey-looking one with a weird tilt to the muzzle would actually be an interesting idea.

In other news, I've been watching way too much about Jonestown. Kool-aid jokes need not apply. This shit is invading my DREAMS, man.

Character Concept :: Fiona

Still experimenting with making canines retain their, er... canineness? while still looking relatably human. The only fur on her so far is just the tail, but I'm not sure I'll be keeping that (her head design may make the lack of a tail look awkward?) I'm experimenting. I like her face a lot, I just need to dick with the proportions a little. I'll probably reprint this on the same page and take another stab at it.

Recent outage due to a spat of horrible ickfucknastybody stupidity. I'm getting better, thankfully.

Conceptual :: Ahau ob

I've had this image just sitting on my HD for a while and I didn't bother doing anything with it. So I went a little brush-crazy on it and this was the result. Not perfect, but I do like how the colors and graphic elements turned out-- and I'm still trying to keep up on a semi-regular posting schedule.

Image is © Schultz '10 -- feel free to pass the link around but please do not repost without express permission.

Conceptual WIP :: A Series of Moments

This is a work in progress-- I'm trying my best to finish it by the time the week's up, but I'm still pretty happy with how it's going. The idea is to brush up on my skills in depicting some of the people that exist in the backdrop. Sadly the fox girl ended up looking too much like a common furry to take seriously, but I still like how the overall feel of the image turned out.

I'll add more descriptiness to this post when I'm less passy-outy, geehhh, but I wanted to put up some new artwork before I went to sleep (or whittled away the time dicking with Garry's Mod). The scan is a little fuzzy in places, which I find sad, but since it's a WIP I didn't feel like it was necessary to do multiple scans. It'll look better when I get around to doing the final.

Conceptual :: Dog Interrupted

This is another repost from the archives, so many apologies if you've seen it before. In part, this can be considered fanart, but not of what some might think (Resident Evil 4) since I consider the dog mutants in that particular game to be homage to the same source.

I needed practice on drawing straight-up canines in terms of anatomical studies, and per my usual, I can't possibly be happy with a technical 'standing pose' drawing. I already get bored enough with my 'interesting' stuff-- you can imagine how quickly I move on from something that non-engaging.

(and this would be why i stopped paying attention in art school...)

In any event, this, like the previous image, is done in graphite with tinting added back in via Photoshop. The blizzard effect going on in the background ended up taking way, waaay more time than I wanted to put into it, but I'm still plugging away at it bit by bit. This can be considered unrelated to the larger project at hand, for the most part; at the moment it'll just be unrestrained gushing over The Thing. Speaking of, the site linked has some information concerning the upcoming 'Thing' prequel, which I'm not altogether excited about. Why? Largely because of the names attached to the project. It WOULD be nice to see a coherent take on the Norwegian side of things, but...

The downer on this is Ronald D. Moore, a writer who has consistently had only semi-decent ideas with very poor execution and a distinct lack of empathy. I was taken in by BSG at the beginning but it was clear that whatever vision he had for the series wasn't long-lasting or sustainable. I've seen him take guest writing gigs on other series-- Carnivale comes to mind, specifically-- and his episodes stuck out like a sore thumb in comparison to the other writers, even before I knew it was him at the helm. Needless to say, this doesn't give me high hopes when it comes to him being able to carry the weight of the original film with any grace.

Conceptual WIP :: 'Step Right Up' (Mutie Town)

I've been pretty terrible about upkeep with this blog. Since I've given up posting to various archives, I may as well put these up on here. I'll try to post the old stuff (with vague explanations) every morning or every other morning.

This is 'Mutie Town' concept art that I'm still working on. I'm gonna give the double-mouthed horned guy a striped shirt ala carnival announcers. I want to make the characters look more human-oriented as opposed to humans with animal heads; overall this looks a lot better than how it started out. I like the dynamic of the characters and their overall design but I'm gonna have to pass this off to someone with more technical prowess. I do rather like how the martini-girl looks.

Conceptual Art :: Character Busts (First Post!)

Not really anything amazing to place up as my introductory post. I'll give one eventually but for now, better to have something here as a placeholder. Watercolor 'busts' of some of the rote Konigen characters.

I notice that my scanner really isn't fond of getting all the details in the watercolor originals-- I'll have to figure out a good method of getting around that 'cause it's a little disheartening how washed out these ended up looking.
